F R A N C O   S O T I L L O

The art of Franco Sotillo is a manifestation of the merging of his inner and outer worlds, a meditation on the parallel but often conflicting experience of internal and external identities,

Just as any act of creation reveals the shifting essences of the temporal energies within each moment spent creating, so the finished painting reflects the qualities of his mind throughout the artistic process.

His current work is inspired by Latin American folklore, religion,
freedom and how humans were created by the Sun God.
he accomplished this by introducing geometric shapes
and surrealism images as horses, planets, dimension and identities extraterrestrials.

Let’s start with your story, we would like to know about your journey has been so far and hear how you got started.
I started finding my art skills since I was 8 years old, when I signed up for my first spring art contest in my primary school. We usually made art contest every September because we celebrate the spring season, full of colors, flowers and vibes. Which I won and since then till my last year of my high school, I was drawing for everyone and for sure I got paid for them, (lol). My best friend from my childhood and neighbor and I, we decided to start going to a private art school in lima called Santa Angela, I was there for couple of years, we got 2 exhibitions as a younger, and then we keep apart from each other because we found our line in art and we got different styles and media. (he moved to Austria).

Then I enjoyed the Contemporary art school called Edith Sachs as a turn 19 years old

I sold more than 35 artworks in my country, I was painting and same time I got my first job nothing to do with my art, a year later I studied being a graphic designer, which I finished with the 1st place, I did some artwork and designs for some Peruvians brands and national parks. But it wasn’t a career for me, I was feeling encapsule because I love to use my pencils, my oils. computers weren’t my best friends on the time because I cannot stop drawing or paint with a free trace or line …just be free What is something you had to put off because of the pandemic that you have recently done or is on your list to do soon?
What does your art future hold for you?
Awakenings, deep love and frequencies.

Artists are always bombarded by how great it is to pursue their passion etc., but we know from a lot of people that it is not always that easy. Overall, would you say things have gotten better for you as an artist in South Florida?
I pushed myself to re-start to paint again, after almost 8 years without doing any piece of art to show.
The type of art expression I have, isn’t getting the attention that should be, because it has a lot of messages to the world that can change our perfection of thinking and go deep with art.

As you know I am impressed with your work, tell our readers more for example. What are you most proud of, and what sets you apart from others?
I am expressing my deepest and great moments in life, showing my dreams, ideas, feelings, imagination, love, uncomfortable times, fantasies I just want to touch a little piece of your mind or feeling through my art expression with those vibes and vibrant colors, shapes and compositions that my paintings is showing.

Name a famous artist that inspires you and one not yet famous artist you would like the readers to know about.
The master Fernando De Szyszlo, famous Peruvian surrealistic artist. I had the great opportunity to interviewed him and got his brush autograph!
Is there a current or upcoming show or exhibit you want to let people know about?
I had a wonderful exhibit in July ,2024 at Hotspot art gallery, 8 new art pieces; About the Latin south American folklore, religions, freedom and how humans were created by the sun god that we called Inti. I am looking forward to a busy fall art season.

Is there anyone in particular you would like to mention, mentors, etc.?
God.

Let’s end with a fun fact about you.
I love to sing and dance while I am painting, especially electronic, techno and old school Spanish music. I am a very foody guy, and I can’t live without my coffee daily!
